Rising Star Designs & Communication presents Assegai Magazine.

Some ideas simmer; others broil and the one I have for a new online (I'm a bit of a greenie) creative magazine is frothing over! I intend to showcase the best creative work around the world.

The inscription on the Statue of Liberty states: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door." Here's my version: “Give me your creations, your children, Your poetry and song yearning to capture greatness, The music that breathes fire from your soul. Send these, the pearls, god-kissed to me. I await beside the email portal.”

What do I want to see?

I’m interested in receiving anything and everything from poetry; prose; song snippets; photographs; illustrations; short stories (even an ongoing serial or novella for the right writer); book reviews (including those told from the perspective of a literary giant such as Jane Austen); Flash animation; comic strips; recipes and everything in between. (I told you I was a greenie!)

My main criterion for submission is for the work to be your original, best work. It must also be in English. The only reason for this is if I cannot read it, I cannot publish it. Contributors, of course, hold the copyright for their work. Whether your material has been published or not doesn’t worry me. However, you will obviously need to ensure that any previously published material can be legally submitted to me without any a priori copyright restrictions. Also, sending your work in will mean, if accepted, it’s subject to editing, but I will be collaborating with you, not just changing things willy-nilly.

Whenever you submit a piece, please include a brief bio (300 words should be sufficient) that includes your full name, email address, website address (if applicable), location (and your original place of birth if different). I would also like a photo and your birthdate, but these are optional. I've found that people love to see the creator of the work and I'm an astrology buff, hence the request for the birthday (your Star Sign is okay, if you're shy). Just in case you're curious, I'm a Libra with tons of Virgo planets!

The creative spark is like no other. It bends time, moves mythical mountains and makes your spirit soar. I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with you.
